My botanical paintings are inspired by the abundance of nature. I draw my inspiration from wildflowers, tangled hedgerow, seed heads, grasses and plants found along country paths and verges.

Working predominantly in oils, alongside mixed media and botanical printmaking, I combine expressive colour, layered texture and pattern to create distinctive contemporary paintings. My background in printed textile design can be seen in the way I approach composition, surface and the repeating forms found in nature.

Rather than creating traditional botanical studies, I aim to  capture the character and movement of plants and flowers in a freer, more expressive way. Layers are built up, scratched into and worked back, giving each painting a tactile surface and an individual sense of energy.

These artworks are unique to me and I will continue to develop them. I was delighted my Clover wallpaper was recently selected for the ‘Inspired by Standen- The future of Arts and Crafts exhibition , a project organised by Sussex Contemporary and the National Trust.
