An Abstract Red Poppies Painting painted in oils on canvas 60 x 60cm
£45.00 – £550.00
I love this painting! The painting is abstracted from several painting I have done based on a clump of Norfolk poppies I saw on my favourite walk in Norfolk where I grew up. The poppies were really beautiful but so were their pinwheel seedheads. This painting would brighten up any room.
Description
My Inspiration for my Abstract Red Poppies Painting
This abstract red poppies painting of some Norfolk poppies is one of a series of paintings of red poppies I painted in 2020. The paintings were inspired by a cluster of poppies I saw on one of my many a walks in the fields where I grew up in Hethersett, a village just outside Norwich in Norfolk. There are some walks I love and this particular walk I find many an inspiring scene to paint. You can read about where I find my inspiration on my blog, In many a walk.
Why do we love poppies?
Of course the poppy is the enduring symbol of remembrance of the First World War. It is strongly linked with Armistice Day (11 November), but the poppy’s origin as a popular symbol of remembrance lies in the landscapes of the First World War. Poppies were a common sight, especially on the Western Front.
Another reason we love poppies are because they are so damned attractive. They make our walks more appealing .They are wild and simple and their flowers are a beautiful bright red. I also love their seed-heads. I used to enjoy peeling them open when I was a young girl. Now, I really appreciate their dried geometric forms. I have drawn attention to these shapes in this painting.
