Contemporary botanical seed-heads painting 60 x 60cm
£45.00 – £350.00
This is an original painting of a collection of seedheads gathered from Queen Mary’s Woods, on one of my walks. I have stylized it by reducing the colours. I think seedheads make a great subject as there are such varieties in the structures and forms. I also love to enhance the entwining patterns and the natural shapes that form when they are put together. I also love using metallics and pearescent paints and the tones change in different lighting.

Jo Sharpe’s Contemporary Botanical Paintings
This contemporary botanical seed-heads painting forms part of my botanical paintings range. These paintings have been developed over time using creativity, innovation, several artistic skills and the latest digital technology.
These paintings have developed from my modern botanical prints. This collection started in 2016 with a series inspired by Cornish hedgerows. These were a series of digitally manipulated art prints that are really beautiful and innovative and very different from my natural painting style. Recently I have wanted to develop these further by turning them into large paintings. Therefore, my contemporary botanical paintings are digitally manipulated photographs, that have been printed onto canvas and painted over the tops with either several layers of acrylic or oil paints. Sometimes I hand paint over everything and sometimes I just paint the background. Often 3 coats of paint needs to be applied.
These are original works of art that alongside my Bespoke Art Cushions cushions look fantastic in interiors and trendy. Using my textile background I have created a coordinated range of home furnishings making your home look interiors designed. I am also happy to accept special orders changing the size and colour to suit clients tastes.
Queen Mary’s Woods
This painting was inspired using seed-heads gathered from Queen Mary’s Woods. These woods are situated in Carshalton Beeches and are a place I visit regularly on one my many walks. They are particularly beautiful in the summer as Sutton Nature Conservation Volunteers have done a marvellous job by planting many species of wild flowers and grasses. Queen Mary’s Woods have inspired several other artworks. These are: contemporary botanical teal painting and The deer in Queen Mary’s Woods.
