A contemporary gold sky painting called Free Spirits 80 x 80cm

£30.00£350.00

This spiritual artwork is called Free Spirits and would look wonderful in either a contemporary or traditional setting. Painted using gold acrylic paint, it looks brilliant in artificial light as it glimmers and looks really expensive! It comes alive in the space it is in. One feels calm and inspired just looking at it. ‘You are welcome to ‘try before you buy.’ It also works really well as a limited edition print. Produced in 2020, a special reminded of those lost in the pandemic year. The framed print features in the exhibition Free Spirits: Loss in Lockdown.

Description

Inspiration for my contemporary gold sky painting

This contemporary art birds in sky was inspired by one of my walks in Beddington Park, Wallington. There was a noise overhead and so I looked up and saw a large black bird sitting at the top of a tree watching many others birds flying above. It made me think about how free birds were and how in life many of us want to be free like the birds but have ties that hold us down. It seems especially true at the moment when our freedoms have been curtailed with ‘covid’.

Rembrance

This painting and print has special significance to me. My dad died in October 2020 and I posted this spiritual image on social media the night he died.

My contemporary art birds in Free Spirits exhibition

When South London artist Jo Sharpe and poet Rachel Sambrooks lost their fathers during lockdown, the restrictions on seeing them or attending a funeral were heartbreaking. They are now collaborating on a new project that explores their creative response  to grief and to form a memorial space for others.

The Free Spirits: Loss in Lockdown exhibition of art and poetry is a tribute to those close to us who died during a time of limited contact and absence.

The exhibition will open on 13th April 2021 at Studio 9, The Old Stable Block, Oaks Park, Croydon Lane, Carshalton, Surrey, SM7 3BA. Viewings can be made by appointment or online.
